Paul A. Rosen

Paul has been involved in the building business for over 30 years. After the oil embargo in the mid 70's, he consulted on energy conservation and efficiency. In 1977 he founded Snug Harbor Group, a real estate development and restaurant company in Ft. Myers Beach, Florida and ran it for 15 years. During that time, he built over 60 residences and 200,000 sq. ft. of energy efficient commercial space. After moving to the Bay Area he became CEO of Sonoma Circuits, Inc. a Santa Rosa manufacturer of electronic controls for commercial vehicles. He designed and received a patent for a high efficiency power control system currently installed in specialty vehicles sold worldwide. Sonoma Circuits’ largest customer bought the company in 1999 and he continued as CEO for another year. After that Paul went back to his first love, energy efficiency and renewable energy. He has designed and sold over one and a half megawatts of PV systems. Paul and his family live in Sebastopol in the first completed (3/2006) and occupied LEED certified house in the world. It incorporates solar electric and hot water systems and is a ZEH (zero energy home). He now works with architects, builders, and home owners in designing and building Green Buildings, as well as improving the comfort, heath and efficiency of existing homes and commercial properties. He has given talks throughout the Bay Area on “Greening Your Home”. Current work includes consulting on ten residential projects all pursuing LEED Platinum certification. He is also the Green Consultant and GreenPoint Rater on a mixed use 150 unit apartment building in Berkeley and two 65 unit affordable housing projects in addition to several GreenPoint Rated single family homes. Several additional clients are pursuing Sustainable Design without any certifications. They are interested in building the greenest, healthiest, and most efficient homes possible. Paul brings a “turn-key” package to clients building new properties or upgrading the efficiency and comfort of existing homes. Available services include project management, energy modeling, auditing and retrofits, mechanical design, and complete systems integration. As a Home Performance Analyst following CBPCA and BPI protocols, he has tested and designed upgrades on approximately 50 homes. Paul is also a certified CBPCA (California Building Performance Contractor’s Association) instructor specializing in training contractors in Building Science, Home Performance Auditing and Energy Retrofits.

Paul is a LEED Accredited Professional, Certified Green Building Professional, CABEC Certified Energy Plans Examiner, USGBC LEED for Homes Representative and Rater, and GreenPoint and HERS Rater. He has been a Licensed General Contractor in California since 1994 (#686028) and Florida since 1978 (#CGC013166). He earned his Bachelors in Engineering in Industrial and Systems design at the University of Michigan.
